A Note From The Super: Dade County Schools Closure March 16–27, 2020

The shared goal of the Dade County Board of Education, superintendent and team is to keep our students and their families safe. At this time, the Dade County School District does NOT have any suspected or confirmed cases of the coronavirus in our schools or offices. I established a health task force that is working closely with the Georgia Department of Education, the Office of Governor Brian Kemp, the Georgia Department of Public Health and the Dade County Health Department. We are continually receiving guidance on steps we can take to minimize the risk of contracting and spreading COVID-19.

Here’s what we are doing now:

  • Dade County Schools will be closed March 16 - 27, 2020.

  • Digital Learning will continue, and alternate plans will be provided for students without access to wifi. 

  • No athletic practices and games until further notice per GHSA recommendation.

  • No extracurricular activities during this two-week window.

  • Extensive cleaning will be done in all buildings and buses.

  • Offices at the district and schools will be open.

  • Lunch will be available on certain days for all Dade County youth below 18. Dr. Long requested a waiver for the Seamless Summer Program. Distribution plans are being developed now. (We will share as we plan.) 

  • There will be no change to Spring Break.

  • March 23rd board meeting will be held as planned.

We will continue to take our guidance from Governor Kemp as we navigate through these unchartered waters. If you have any questions, please contact your principal or superintendent. Or you can contact me, Dr. Harris, at janharris@dadecs.org
