Let me continue to remind those of you who have books checked out that you do not need to worry about getting any fines. There will be no late charges for books still out while the library is closed. You may drop books off in the book drop, but patrons may keep them until the library opens if they prefer. Also, if your card is about to expire, that will be extended as well.
Electronic downloads of books, audiobooks and magazines is a good way to go if you need reading material. If you don’t have a library card, go to chrl.org and click on the PINES card icon to apply for a card. Then email our staff at dadecirc@chrl.org and they will issue you a virtual card. With that number, you will be able to access RBDigital. It works very similarly to a regular library. Copies of books, especially bestsellers, are limited and patrons might have to wait until a book is available. You may re-check a book at least one time. After the checkout time is up, the ebook will just disappear from your electronic device.
Need activities for your kids? Go to chrl.org and find not only reading suggestions but activities in history, science, art and more.
If you have some spare time, as many of us are having more of recently, take time to fill out your census report. Go to 2020census.gov. t only take about five minutes to fill it out. Make sure Dade gets counted!
Don’t forget about the Little Pantry on the east side of the library. If you need extra groceries, there are nonperishable food items available there for free. If you would like to donate to the pantry, you can drop items there as well.
Do your kids need to do school work, but your family doesn’t have wi-fi? The library’s wi-fi does extend outside its doors and you may park in the parking lot and use it. No password is necessary. In addition, Trenton Telephone has made hot spots available in several locations where the internet can be accessed at no charge. These hot spots are at Veterans Park outside the library, Woodlawn Baptist Church on Sand Mountain, New Salem Community Center on Lookout Mountain and the Four Fields county park.
As you may know, a Book Club has been meeting in our library for many years now. We have had to make do a few times. When the library was closed because of mold and because of construction, we met in the homes of some of our members or in one of the schools. Well, we have a situation now where none of those things are options, but we don’t like to miss out Book Club. So last week, 11 members of our Book Club met virtually on Zoom. We had a few practice sessions and I’m happy to report that it all worked out and we had our meeting with just a few glitches.
We are planning to meet via Zoom for our April meeting as well. We will discuss
