Glad Tidings: Library Reopens Next Week!

You may already have heard this announcement, but the Dade County Public Library will be reopening on a limited basis beginning Tuesday, May 5.

For at least the first two weeks, the library will be open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The number of people in the library will be limited, so we ask that you check out your books and movies, make copies, send faxes and then make room for another patron.

The first hour, from 10 to 11 a.m., will be reserved for seniors and those with health issues. Please respect this time. We will practice social distancing, and continuous cleaning. There will be no programs or meetings taking place because it would be difficult to practice social distancing in that setting. People who have had books on hold may pick them up beginning May 5.

If you don’t feel comfortable coming in the library, we will have curbside service. Contact us at (706) 657-7857, tell us what books you want and we will collect them, check them out for you, and bring them to your car.

Our Book Club had another successful meeting last week via Zoom. We had 11 members present. Besides discussing Malcolm Gladwell’s book Talking to Strangers, we did a little catching up. Two of our members suffered some damage to their houses and property from the tornado. Next month’s book is Confederates in the Attic: Dispatches from the Unfinished Civil War by Tony Horwitz. We don’t know yet whether we will be meeting in person in May or meeting on Zoom again, but meet we will.

For further updates on the library, watch our signs on the square and our Facebook pages, Friends of the Dade County Georgia Library or Dade County Public Library.

Thank you for your patience, and we are looking forward to seeing our patrons again, even in a limited setting.

Linda Wilson is everybody's favorite retired English teacher and a faithful library volunteer.
