I know regular library users get anxious about possible library fines, especially in the unprecedented situation we find ourselves in now. Let me relieve your minds. The due dates for books and materials checked out before the library closed is now May 15. So if you still have books or movies that you checked out, please know that as long as they are turned in by Friday, May 15, there will be no fines. If you are still uncomfortable about coming into the library, please use the book drop outside.
For our second week open, we will still have hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Curbside service is still available by calling (706) 657-7857. Call for instructions. There are still no programs or meetings taking place at the library.
Our Book Club will meet via Zoom on Tuesday, May 19, at 7 p.m. We will be discussing Confederates in the Attic by Tony Horwitz. This nonfiction book is a great read for all of those who remain intrigued by the events of the Civil War. If you would like to join the discussion, but are not already a member of the Book Club, please email me at lanew@tvn.net to be added to the group.
To keep updated on events and changes at the library, in addition to this column, you can check our Facebook pages at Friends of the Dade County Georgia Library and Dade County Public Library, as well as our website at chrl.org. Don’t forget our message boards on the square, too!
Several of the Dade County Historical Society’s events have had to be cancelled or postponed. Check out their Facebook page, as they will be posting historical articles weekly.
