Sgt. Chad Payne is information officer, as well as a detective, for the Dade County Sheriff's Office.
On May Tuesday, May 12, at approximately 9 p.m., Dade County deputies received a call of an assault in the Rising Fawn community. It was reported that a preacher of a church in Rising Fawn had located two unknown males skateboarding on church property. He observed the subjects jumping off a large retaining wall while skateboarding, and out of a concern for their safety, he asked them to leave. While he was asking the males to leave, one of the subjects struck the preacher, knocking him off his feet and onto the ground. The two males then got in to a vehicle and the vehicle left the scene. Sheriff Cross learned of the incident, immediately notified his Criminal Investigations Division (CID), and advised them to locate the unknown offenders ASAP. In less than 24 hours, Sheriff Cross's CID Team, along with the assistance of Road Patrol, located the offender responsible for the assault. The offender was found to be a juvenile, and the juvenile male is being charged with Criminal Trespass and Simple Battery.
