Editor's Note: This is an open letter from Connie Ward, who is opening a new Thursday farmers market on Lookout Mountain.
The idea of an open market started last year as my sweet neighbor kept offering extra produce from his garden as I was trying to give my extras away.
We thought about putting a stand up by the road and asking people to self-pay. This, however, might cause cars pulling in at all times which would upset our dogs and quiet farm life. I work at the barn and in the garden most afternoons between 4:00 and 6:00 and realized that one day a week I could have a farm stand open since I am up there anyway. The idea grew as I considered including some my own creative crafts. I also realized this could provide an outlet for other community farmers and artists. So there you have it--the Rising Pines Farm Market.
Venders can set up their own space (tent, table, tailgate) for $10. You can be part of our market one Thursday or as many as you would like. We have plenty of room for shaded set-up and parking.
My husband Dane has been volunteering at the Chattanooga Community Kitchen for several years. All consignment and vender fees will go to support this essential community homeless cause.
The Market outside will be open Thursdays from 4- 6 p.m., June -September. Our farm is located on the left 7/10s of a mile north of Highway 136 on Highway 157. The address is 10384 Highway 157, Rising Fawn, GA 30738.
Rising Pines Farm Market’s goal is to promote work of friends and family by providing an opportunity to share their creative and agriculture efforts. We live in a community where artists, gardeners, farmers and craftsmen are abundant. We hope this market will become a showcase for our community’s treasures.
