It's Time, Folks--Secretary of State's Office Urges You to Get Absentee Ballots In

It's down to the wire now, voters: Early voting in this year's election ends at 2 p.m. this Friday, June 5. Election Day is next Tuesday, the 9th. As the clock ticks, the Georgia Secretary of State's Office is trying to get the message out that, while the absentee ballots every Georgian was offered this year is the best way to vote, those ballots must be received by Election Day to count.

So if you intend to mail your ballot, said Walter Jones of the Secretary of State's office, leave sufficient mailing time to get it in before 7 p.m. June 9. As for ballots that don't get there on time, sayd Jones: "They won't be discarded but they won't be counted, either."

An alternative to mailing is the secure, drive-up ballot box recently installed outside the Dade Administrative Building. Ballots may be dropped off there any time between now and 7 p.m. on the 9th.

If you have received an absentee ballot and want to vote in person anyway, whether early or on Election Day, please remember to bring the absentee ballot to surrender to poll workers.
