Check Out Our Reading Room Dragon!

Please remember to sign your kids up for Summer Reading by going online to BeanStack at chrl.org. This is where you record the books your children have read. They have some great prizes for summer reading, but kids much be registered to win them. All books your kids read will count, library books or your own books. If you still don’t feel comfortable coming into the library, just put some books on hold and call the library and we will pull them and bring them out to you, along with kits for their crafts.

This week’s craft is the Goldfish Windsock. Be sure and pick up your craft kit before the Facebook Live program on Thursday, June 11 at 10:30 AM. Just go to the Dade County Public Library page on Facebook. Kids can also see our first Mini Museum, open June 11-17. This is another Touch Free activity at the library.

If the kids haven’t already been by for our Reading Room Reveal, it’s worth checking out. It’s big, it’s purple, and it’s found in many stories. Yes, it’s a dragon! Kids and parents will all be amazed. Check out the picture with this article.

Pick up next week’s craft activity by June 16 and the Facebook page Dade County Public Library and our new children’s specialist Cristy Ballard will present a program to show kids how to do their craft. If you miss the program at 10:30 a.m., don’t worry, it can be viewed any time it’s convenient.

Next week’s craft is a Sword and Crown and that Facebook Live event will take place at 10:30 a.m. on June 18.

The June Book Club for adults will meet on Tuesday, June 16, at 7 p.m. to discuss Lost Roses by Martha Hall Kelly, a novel about three female friends whose friendship carries them through the dark days of World War I. If you are interested and have not been participating in our Book Club meetings on Zoom, please email me at lanew@tvn.net so that I can add you. The Book Club will meet on Zoom again this month.

We are still reserving our first hour open, from 10 to 11 a.m., for our most vulnerable patrons, seniors or those with health issues.

On Wednesdays, kids from 1 to 18 can pick up food for a week’s breakfasts and lunches. Pull up to the side door between noon and 2 p.m. and let us know how many kids you have. This food is provided by the school system’s summer lunch program.
