Library Opens Mondays, Resumes In-Person Ready-to-Read Program

The library staff is looking forward to seeing our patrons six days a week again. The library is adding open hours on Mondays for the first time since 2012.

The new hours are Mondays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Fridays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The library will now be open 41 hours a week.

Children’s Ready-to-Read programs will resume as well, with two in-person sessions as well as a virtual program on Facebook Live. Please call the library (706-657-3857) or come by in person to sign up for the programs so we will have enough craft kits for each child. The morning programs are on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. and the afternoon program is at 1 p.m., also on Thursdays.

Our first program on September 3 will be an introduction to the library. Our September 10 program will be all about transportation. Our children’s specialist will be reading to the children, and many programs have games and songs as well.

There will be a craft at each program. If you come on September 3, go ahead and sign up for the 10th. Those participating in the virtual program can come by and pick up a craft kit a day or so before the program airs.

Many Dade Countians still have not completed their 2020 census reports. The folks at the library are very happy to assist with this. They can get you set up at a computer and then give you privacy to answer the questions. There are only nine questions on the census and it takes only a few minutes to complete.

Our manager, Marshana Sharp, will be presenting a monthly program, “Tips at Two on Tuesday.” It will take place on the third Tuesday of each month. The tips will be about a variety of things, cooking, organizing, recycling and other topics.

The library is working on plans to offer free tutoring to students, and we hope to have more details about that next week.
