TRENTON, Ga.--Joseph Rodgers Owens, 86, died Saturday night, July 30, 2016. He was a member of Moon Lake Baptist Church at Mentone, Ala., and visited nursing homes for years before he broke his leg. He was a Mason and 32-degree Scottish Rite, where he served in the wardrobe department for several years. He was a member of American Legion Post 106 at Trenton and later of the Legion post in Mentone.
Joe graduated from Dade County High School in 1948. He then served in the Army at Fort Hood and later Fort Benning, when he was called back during the Korean War00.
He worked 33-plus years for George A. Hormel Company of Austin, Minn., in warehousing, then in sales, later as supervisor, with the key account of all Red Food Stores.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Rosalyn, who died at 11 years old; parents, Claude E. Owens Sr. and Sallie Allison Owens; brothers, Claude Owens Jr. and Albert Owens; sisters, Sarah Gass and Elizabeth Fischer, and their husbands, Clyde Gass and Malcolm Fischer; and many cousins.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 64 years, Leola T. Owens; a niece, Donna Jacobs, her husband, Jack and their son John; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2, in the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Rev. Curtis Bridges, Rev. Terry Turner and Bro. John Inman officiating. Burial will follow in Payne Cemetery, Trenton.
Visitation will be held Monday 4- 8 p.m. EDT and Tuesday 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
