Rob Walston



ROCK SPRING, Ga.--Staff Sergeant William R. “Rob” Walston, 53, died peacefully in Nashville, Tenn., on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016. He was born Jan. 9, 1963, to Legatha Walston, who preceded him in death. Rob was raised in the New Salem community on Lookout Mountain and was a member of the Northwest Georgia High School class of 1981 and New Salem United Methodist Church.

He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Scott and Esther Gray, as well as aunts Herscheline Kenemore and Clara Jo Ryan.

Rob was a brave and loyal soldier, spending 33 years in service to his country. Regardless of where he was stationed or deployed, he always went willingly and served with absolute dedication and honor. He was also a devoted and loving husband and father, married for 26 years to his wife, Linda, with whom he had two beloved daughters, Lily and Linsey.

He was equally loved by his brother-and-sister-in-law, Ronnie and Brenda Chandler, his nieces, Iris and Briley Chandler, his “sisters” Kathy Adkins, June McCormick, Kim and Christy Forester, and many, many other close relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at New Salem United Methodist Church Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 3 p.m.EDT, with Minister Ronald Chandler and Brother John Stanley officiating. Sequatchie Valley Veterans Honor Guard and American Legion Post 106 will do full military honors prior to the service.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the New Salem United Methodist Church on Lookout Mountain from noon until the start of the service.
