Clarence Durham



TRENTON, Ga.--Walter Clarence Durham, 88, died peacefully on Monday, Sept.12, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace Denson Durham and Odessa Tinker of Trenton; sister, Bertha Durham Kelly; brothers, William (Farris) Cotton, Millard and Ralph Durham.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Virginia Sivley Durham; two daughters, Brenda (Charles) Poe of Chattanooga and Carolyn Ellis (Gary) Graham, Dalton; three granddaughters, Sheri Greene of Atlanta, Stephanie Reynolds of Dalton and Emily Collier of Chattanooga; six great- grandchildren; brother, Rev. A.C. Durham, Trenton, and sister, Lorena Fowler, Trenton; several nieces and nephews.

He worked for many years for D.M. Steward Manufacturing Company and Marsh Ceramics before founding his own company, Dade Machine and Welding. He served for 40 years on the board of directors of the Bank of Dade, for which he was also property appraiser for many years.

He was a member of Trenton Masonic Lodge, Al Hambra Shriners and Scottish Rite of Chattanooga. He was a charter member and served as deacon at Calvary Baptist Church.

Clarence was a man of integrity who cherished God, family, country and his very beloved Dade County where he was born.

Visitation will be held Wednesday 4-8 p.m at Moore Funeral Home in Trenton. Private graveside service will be held Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or Hospice of Chattanooga.
