ROCK SPRING, Ga.— Charles Allen Bailey, 66, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016. He was a lifelong resident of the North Georgia area and served for many years as the postmaster of Rising Fawn. He was a Sergeant First Class in the United States Army who served during the Vietnam War and in Kuwait during Desert Storm. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 2003 after more than 30 years of service. He loved Alabama "Roll Tide" football and enjoyed gardening and raising chickens.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gwendola Bailey. Survivors include his wife, Tammy Swanson Bailey, of Rock Spring, Ga.; father, C.R. Bailey, of Chattanooga; sons and daughters-in-law, Bernd and Nikki Bailey, Mark and Laurie Bailey, all of Lookout Mountain, Ga., and Caleb Bailey, of Rock Spring, Ga.; previous wife of more than 32 years, Gabi Bailey, of Lookout Mountain, Ga.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Terry Bailey, Bruce and Beth Bailey and Steve and Crystal Bailey; seven sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia Harris, Marilyn Goolesby, Sharon and Mark Atwell, Charlene and David Patty, Denise and Marty Stewart, Beverly and Robert Cooper and Sherry and Phil Lowe; four grandchildren, Chandler Bailey, Brayden Bailey, John Wesley Bailey and Dawson Bailey; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel of Wilson Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Daniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 4 p.m. Tuesday and prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
