Lerlene Gray Hicks, 94, of the New Salem community in Dade County, died this week. She was a hairdresser and had shops in Rossville and Trenton. She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy who served in the WAVES during World War II. She was a lifelong member of New Salem United Methodist Church, where she belong to New Salem United Methodist Women.
She is reunited with parents, Charles Arthur and Lula Virginia Davis Gray; two brothers, Hayden and Bill Gray; two sisters, Lorena Jones and Jean McKaig; and a son, Lester Hicks.
Surviving include son Don (Dorothy) Hicks of Trenton; daughter-in-law Darlene Hicks, Chattanooga; five grandchildren, Christy Hicks of Chickamauga, Shannon (Robby) Dunn of Chickamauga, Brian Edwards of Florida, Shannon (Buddy) Palmer of Trenton, and D.J. (Jennifer) Hicks of Trenton; two great-grandchildren, Grayson and Garrett Dunn; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Salem Fire Department, New Salem Neighborhood Watch, Hawkins Cemetery or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 15, in the Ryan Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Jody Ihfe and Rev. Reece Fauscett officiating. Interment will follow in Hawkins Cemetery. Family will receive friends 3-8 p.m. Saturday and 1-3 p.m. Sunday at Ryan Funeral Home, Trenton.
