Joyce Gray



Alice Joyce Gray, 89, died Sunday, April 23, 2017.

Born Jan. 21, 1928, she was preceded in death by grandparents, Alice McCurdy Goss and Robert Goss; father, John Powell; mother and stepfather, Dora Goss Tinker and Wiley C. Tinker; brother, Robert “Lewis” Powell; and husbands Tolly Scott and Henry Gray.

She is survived by daughters Darlene Scott, Texas, and Davina Scott, Alabama; sons Robert Scott, Texas, Dwain and Darrell Scott, Trenton; five grandsons; eight great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and numerous cousins.

Ms. Gray was a native of Trenton who as an Air Force wife witnessed the history of the USAF in the making as she and her former husband, Tolly Scott, moved to different deployments across the country.

Ms. Gray worked in the Trenton Post Office for 24 years until her retirement. She started as a rural route carrier in 1968 and worked as a clerk as well as acting postmaster for a number of years. She was a charter member of the Trenton VFW Ladies Auxiliary, a founding member of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) of Trenton, a past president of the American Red Cross chapter of Trenton, a former member of the original Dade County Emergency Management Team, a former member of the Trenton Eastern Star, and a former member of the American Legion Post 106 Ladies Auxiliary in Trenton.

Special thanks to the Dade Health and Rehabilitation for the care and love they bestowed upon Ms. Gray, including the entire staff of Facilities, Dietary, Housekeeping, Activities, Beautician, Speech Therapy, Physical Therapy and Administration, certified nursing assistants, nursing staff, physicians, volunteers and residents. Thank you to Hearth Hospice for their care and support.

Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, April 25, in the chapel of Moore Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-8 p.m. and Wednesday 11 a.m.-noon.
