Luther Joiner


Luther Dunning Joiner, 82, of Trenton, died Sunday, June 4, 2017. Luther retired from Georgia Power in 1989. At the age of 55, he walked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Trenton.

Luther was a member of Gideons International and Catoosa Valley RDC and a lifetime member of the Trenton/Dade Optimist Club, where he served as lieutenant-governor. He had served for 10 years as a building inspector for the City of Trenton and had served on several other civic boards as well.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Stella Joiner; sisters Stella Corbett, Louise Haveran and Gertie Dillon; and brothers, Earnest Joiner and James Joiner.

Survivors include his loving wife of 20 years, Janie Joiner; daughter, Lynn Wilson, Valdosta, Ga.; sons, Luther Joiner Jr., Columbus, Ga., and Joey Joiner, Augusta, Ga.; stepsons Roger (Susan) Hampton, Hixson, Tenn., and William S. (Joan) Hampton, Charlotte, N.C.; 18 grandchildren, Abby, Haley, Logan, Jonathan, and Rebecca Joiner; Katie Smith; Laura, Cole and Taylor Wilson; Andrew Danko; Mallory Davis; Mark, Brad, John, Gannon, and Brett Hampton; Ashlee Booksh; and Kayla Hoffman; eight great-grandchildren; and sisters Frances Topper, Minneapolis, Minn., and Dottie Duke, Marietta, Ga.; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 7, at 2 p.m. EDT with full military honors at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Billy Wallace, Pastor Tim Renshaw and Missionary Shannon Hampton officiating. Interment will follow in Hawkins Cemetery with Brother Tim Riddle offering prayer.

Visitation will be held Tuesday 4-8 p.m. and Wednesday 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home. The body will then be taken to Calvary Baptist Church for the 2 p.m.service.
