Jim Bowen Jr.



James “Jim” Bowen Jr., 77, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather of the New Salem community, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017.

He was an active member of New Salem United Methodist Church. He had been a minister, teacher, coach and chaplain, scoutmaster for 53 years of Boy Scout Troop 29, and a former president of National Planers Association.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Louise Baker Bowen; and parents, James S. Bowen Sr. and Mildred Bowen and Carl and Cleo Baker.

Survivors include his daughters, Deborah (Randall) Minor, Linda (Dennis) Whitmore and Carla (Tim) Porter; son, Terry (Trish) Bowen; brothers, Bert (Linda) Bowen, Richard “Dick” (Sandy) Bowen and Dennis (Shirl) Bowen; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at New Salem United Methodist Church with Reverend Jodie Ihfe and Reverend Wayland Stewart officiating. Burial will be held in Hawkins Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post 106.

Honorary pallbearers will be former members of Boy Scout Troop 29

Visitation will be Friday 4-8 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home and Saturday noon-2 p.m. at New Salem United Methodist Church

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to New Salem United Methodist Church or Shiloh Community Church
