Chuck O'Rear



Charles “Chuck” A. O’Rear, 83, of Flintstone, died at his home late Saturday evening. He was a graduate of Tyner High School, class of 1952. He graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan College with a degree in business and was then employed with Provident for over 29 years. He was a member of Flintstone United Methodist Church and a trustee of the church for many years. Mr. O’Rear was a past district director of Dixie Youth Baseball. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he was a life member of American Legion Post 217 in Chickamauga and of the DAV in Chattanooga.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Pettit O’Rear; father and stepmother Ralph and Ellenor O’Rear; sister, Joy Ruth O’Rear; grandson Ryan O’Rear; and stepdaughter Phyllis Bird Miles.

Surviving include his wife, Louise B. O’Rear of Flintstone; son, Tim (Jennie) O’Rear of Sewanee; stepson James (Terri) Bird of Flintstone; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Flintstone United Methodist Church care of Holston Georgia Parish, 1733 Battlefield Parkwy, Fort Oglethorpe, GA 30752.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, Nov. 26, at 4 p.m. at Flintstone United Methodist Church with Rev. Debra Dickerson and Rev. Justin Keating officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday at the church. Interment will take place in the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 27.
