Willard Short


Willard Eugene Short, 70, of Bryant, Ala., died at his home on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017. He was born in Bryant on Dec. 6, 1946, to the late Alvin and Mable Short. A wounded Vietnam veteran, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 8 ½ years and retired from the civil service after 36½ years.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Oscar and Minnie Pritchett and Esley and Etta Short; and father- and mother in-law, Shan and Mary Needham.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Gloria Short; daughter, Dona (Bill) Campbell, St. Mary’s, Ga.; grandchildren, Danielle and Robert Jones, Douglasville, Ga.; sisters, Doris and Guindal Knight, Meridianville, Ala., Geraldine York and Sheila (Randy) Brown, Bryant, Beverly (Jerome Wright) Chattanooga, and Carolyn Short, Trenton; sister-in-law, Rochella (Richard) Day, Weatherford, Texas; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who all loved him very much.

Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. EDT Thursday, Dec. 7, in the Bryant chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Barry Pritchett officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday noon-8 p.m. and Thursday 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
