Vonnie Gray Forester

Vonnie Gray Forester, 85, of New Salem, died today, Wednesday, January 10, 2018, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.

She was born on July 9, 1932, in New Salem to Scott and Esther Gray. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as sisters Herscheline Kenemore, Clara Jo Ryan and Legatha Walston.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, C.D. “Bunk” Forester; daughters, Kathy (Terry) Adkins, June (Joel) McCormick, Kim and Christy Forester; brothers, Don (Judy) Gray and Dewitt (Nelda) Gray; and sister Elaine Whitten. Vonnie was a lifelong member of New Salem United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the choir and of United Methodist Women. Her greatest joy was nurturing her family. She loved simple things and her hands were rarely still; she was known for her beautiful quilting and embroidery and for the special, hand-stitched baby blankets which were cherished by all who received them. A true giver and tireless worker, she was beloved by all who knew her.

The family would like to express heartfelt love and thanks to Angie Dunwoody for her gentle and constant devotion and also sincere gratitude to Compassus Hospice and Dade Health and Rehabilitation for their deep compassion and outstanding care.
