George Wilson


George Leonard Wilson, died peacefully at his home in Rising Fawn on Monday, April 23, 2018. He was 82 years old.

George was born on October 21, 1935, in Rising Fawn to Walter and Maggie Highfield Wilson. He was the youngest of 11 children.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jane West Wilson; two sons, Lane (Linda) Wilson and Mark Wilson; one daughter, Kathy (Jerry) Donaldson; grandchildren, Cody (Ali) Wallin, Sam Wilson, Jorgie Hansard, Eric (Ashley) Donaldson and Holly Donaldson; great-grandchildren, Phin and Zion Wallin, Isaiah and Bryer Donaldson and Ruth Pack; one brother, Leslie Wilson; one sister, Ruth (Don) Gross; sister-in-law, Dorothy Wilson; many nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jimmy Tom, Spencer and Jackson Wilson; sisters Mary Nell Smith, Clara Coleman, Allie Jean Thompson and infant twins.

George worked for 45 years as a service technician in the tufted carpet industry in Chattanooga and Dalton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and attended Rising Fawn Methodist Church.

George loved his family and he loved children. He enjoyed making a big garden every year and sharing what he grew with his friends and neighbors. In the winter, when he could not garden, he harvested black walnuts, shelled them and gave them to his many friends. He was a loving generous man who gave of himself to everyone he knew.

The family would like to thank Michelle Holifield and the staff of Tapestry Hospice for their care as well as the many friends who came to visit.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, in the chapel of Moore Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hanna Cemetery, Rising Fawn.

Visitation will be Tuesday 4-8 p.m. and Wednesday 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
