Ralph Garnett Mathews, 88, of the New Salem community, died Monday, July 16, 2018. He was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Cleveland and Ethel Virginia Mathews; siblings Ione Miller, Clarice Hawkins and Felix, Philip, Troy and George Mathews.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Ruth Mathews; children and their spouses, Reta Massey, Roxane and Larry Kilgore, Renae and Lee Powell, Regina Mathews, Ronda Higdon, Rosalie Baldwin, Rusty and Charlsie Mathews, Ralph Mathews Jr., Randall Mathews and Ritchie and Renee Mathews; sister Joyce (Jerry) Smith; sister-in-law Marcie Mathews; brother Herbert (Rachel) Mathews; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. EDT Thursday, July 19, in the Trenton chapel with Brother Gene Strauss and Brother David Hale officiating. Burial will follow in Hawkins Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday 4-8 p.m. and Thursday 10 a.m.-2 p.m.EDT.
