Phyllis Helen Powers, 66, of Wildwood, died on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018.
Phyllis was born on June 6, 1952, in Chattanooga, and graduated from Tyner High School in 1970. She attended Lookout Valley Baptist Church. Phyllis spent most of her adult life in Trenton. She was retired after a career in healthcare administration. Phyllis was also a very talented cake baker and decorator, bringing joy to birthday and holiday celebrations for over 40 years.
Phyllis’ passion in life was her family. She loved hosting large holiday gatherings and enjoyed annual family beach trips and spoiling her grandkids. Phyllis loved people and had a true servant’s heart. Even during her toughest days with her cancer battle, Phyllis always had a smile on her face and a positive attitude and was more focused on helping others than herself.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Katherine Stone, and husband, Gene Powers.
She is survived by her children, Sandi Gipson (Mark), Christi Madewell (Brad), Tommy Varnell (Amanda) and Chris Powers (Carolyn); brother, Joe Stone (Janie); beloved aunt Ava “Ova” Robinson Herrin (Lawrence); cousin Skip (Connie), sister-in-law Patti Perlaky (Steve); grandchildren Russ (Andria), River, Mary, Shellie, Jake, Abbie, Brady, Katherine, Bryce and Aaron; great-grandchildren Meadow, Isla, Charlee and Augie; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew and cousins.
Phyllis’ children would like to extend a special thank you to Phyllis’ best friend Rhonda Clark, who always kept Mom on the go and smiling, as well as Dr. Steve Perlaky for going above and beyond to make sure she was getting the best care possible for the past several years while battling cancer.
The family will receive visitors at Ryan Funeral Home (11415 S Main St, Trenton, GA 30752) on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
The memorial service will be in the chapel at Ryan Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22. Interment will follow in Lake Hills Memorial Gardens, Trenton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Phyllis’ honor to either Lookout Valley Baptist Church (23 Lilac Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37419) or the Leiomyosarcoma Direct Research Fund (lmsdr.org/donate-now).
