Melva J. Long, 83, of Bryant, Ala., died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was a member of Sand Mountain United Methodist Church and active in the United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Eula Britt Estes, and brother James H. Estes Jr.

Surviving include her loving husband of 64 years, Alfred L. “Von” Long of Bryant; son Ronald Long (Anna Greene) of Bryant; daughter, Diana (Johnny) Gray of New Salem, Ga.; son, Jerry Wayne (Lynne) Long of Villa Rica, Ga.; grandchildren, Jimmy (Tiffany) Long, Lauren (Seth) Anderton, Katie Long, Leanna (Andrew) Marshall and Hanna (Chad) Williams; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Glenda Scott; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mrs. Long’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, in the chapel of Ryan Funeral Home. The family will receive friend one hour prior to the service.
