First Sgt. Wendell Lee Sharpton, 78, of Higdon, Alabama, died at his residence on Friday, February 22, 2019. Mr. Sharpton proudly served in the United States Army 21 years and pastored 11 years at Union Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Jeff Sharpton and Cora Elizabeth Horton Sharpton; brothers, J.P., Herbert, Marsell, Bill and John D. Sharpton; second wife, Shelby Davis Sharpton; and sister, Emmalene Johnson.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Sharpton, and first wife, Hannelore Sharpton; children, Donna Rogers, Pam (Gerald) Early, Paula (Wesley) Gass, Amy (Dennis) Tims, Jean (Alan) Wright, Linda (Zach) Ditmar; Marjie (Max) Sullivan; Michael (Tammy) Bain, Marty (Miranda) Bain, Simon (Tracey) Strickland and Newt (Denise) Palmer; daughter-in-law, Candy Bain; 32 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. EST Monday, February 25, in the Bryant chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Brad Talley and Brother Chris Townson officiating. Burial will be held with full military honors in Higdon Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday 2-8 p.m. and Monday noon-2 p.m.
