Corene Murphy


Corene Hannah Murphy, 92, born on July 7, 1927, died Monday, September 2, 2019.

Corene was well known in the community for her love of flowers, having been nicknamed “The Day Lily Lady,” and she hybridized many beautiful lilies and had a show stopper yard for all to view. She worked for Ann Other Flower Shop and Glass Farm Nursery for many years. Corene was active in the Dade County Band Boosters and other community organizations. She was a gifted seamstress, quilter, crocheter and knitter. Corene was an avid Rook and Bingo player and had a world of knowledge on sports stats and rules.

Corene was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, John Austin Murphy; son, Joe Murphy; mother, Gussie Mae Hannah; father, Claude Madison Hannah and brothers, Gerald and Donald Hannah.

Survivors include her daughters, Kay (John) Allan, Amy Westley and Anne (David) Warlick; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. EST Thursday, September 5, at Deer Head Cove Cemetery in Deer Head Cove, Ala., with Pastor Robby Dunn officiating.
