Joseph Edd Stephens, Sr., 80, of Trenton, died at his residence Wednesday morning, September 4, 2019. He was a supervisor for Centria Construction and a member of Iron Workers Local #704 of Chattanooga. Mr. Stephens was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served during the Vietnam War. He was a member of White Oak Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Winnie Otis and Ida Frankie Sanford Stephens; grandson Stephen McCormick; siblings Otis Stephens, Edith Michaels, Naomi Womack, Joe Stephens, Alice Weaver and Grace Marona.
Surviving include his loving wife of 54 years, Carolyn Sue Stephens of Trenton; daughter, April (Wayne) McCormick of Ooltewah; sons, James E. (Shelly) Stephens and Joseph Edd “Joey” Stephens Jr., both of Trenton; seven grandchildren, Melissa and Ethan Blevins, Stephanie (Travis) Fitzgerald, Kristen McCormick, Jessalynn (Brandon) Ziehr, Dallas Stephens and Nicole Stephens; five great-grandchildren; sisters Ruth Townsend and Martha (Peter) Reed of Bryant, Ala., Barbara Garrison of Harrison, Tenn., Glenda McCauley of Silsbee, Texas, and Shirley Patton of Fort Oglethorpe; brother Jimmy (Billie Ann) Stephens of Phenix City, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday September 7, in the Ryan Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Jeff Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in Stephens Cemetery on Porter Road.
Family will receive friends from 2 -8 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at Ryan Funeral Home & Crematory, Trenton.
