Evelyn Veal Bowden, 85, of Lookout Mountain, Georgia, the West Brow community, died on Friday, October 18, 2019, in a local hospital.
Evelyn was born on August 29, 1934, to the late E.J. and Ollie Veal on Lookout Mountain and was a graduate of Rossville High School, class of 1952. For many years she was the owner and operator of several restaurants, including the Ruby Falls Snack Bar, the West Brow Diner and Arrow Rock Restaurant. Golfing was her favorite hobby and one of her greatest honors was getting a hole-in-one at Big Sandy Golf Course. She was also a private caregiver and had served on the Dade County School Board, for some as chairperson.
Evelyn was a member of Trinity Holiness Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Bowden; sisters, Martha Mae Veal and Imery Jean Dabbs; and brothers, Virlon and Melvin Veal.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Elaine & Tex Powell; sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Cyndy Bowden and Bruce and Tolitha Bowden, all of Lookout Mountain; grandsons, Lee, Blake, Matthew and Nicholas Bowden and Adam Powell; and granddaughter, Bridgette Meyer; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, in the chapel of Ryan Funeral Home with Rev. Estel Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in Lake Hills Memorial Gardens with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.
