Tommy Hartline


Sergeant-Major William Thomas Hartline, 87, of Wildwood, died on Friday morning, November 9, 2018, in a Suffolk, Virginia, hospital.

He was retired after a distinguished U.S. Army career in the Transportation Corps. He served during the Korean War Era and in Vietnam. He was a founding member of the National Museum of the United States Army at Fort Belvoir. Known locally as "Tommy," he always remained true to his roots as a devoted family patriarch first and foremost.

Survivors include his spouse, Françoise (Fran) Josephe Hartline of Quimperlé, France; son, Gregory (Greg) William Hartline (spouse Patricia Ann); brother, Bufford Hartline; sister, Patsy Lynch; and several nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Sergeant Major Hartline was laid to rest with full military honors, on November 26, 2018, at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, VA 23434, Section 17, Gravesite Number 1516.

A service celebrating Tommy’s life will be held in the Ryan Funeral Home Chapel (11415 S. Main St, Trenton, GA 30752 [706] 657-7525) with Reverend Timothy M. Lynch officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday November 29, 2019, from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. The service will be at 7 p.m.

Flowers are welcome. They will be transferred to his mother's (Nettie Massey Hartline) grave after the service.
