Melvin McKaig

Melvin Lebron McKaig, 78, of Rising Fawn, died Monday, December 2, 2019. He was born in Rising Fawn to the late Mary Lou and late Hugh McKaig.

He was also preceded in death by his brother Richard N. McKaig.

Melvin served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam, earning the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm. He retired after 20 years of military service and went on to work in the defense industry for Westinghouse and Northrop Grumman for 25 years.

Survivors include his wife, Sharyn E. McKaig; son, Matt (Sunny) McKaig; daughters Kate (Bill) Sosnowski and Jenny (Clint) Spivey; eight grandchildren; sister Alice E. McKaig; brothers H.A. (Sandra) McKaig and Roddy E. (Donna) McKaig; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be at noon EST Saturday, December 14, in the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Reverend Brad Bridges officiating. Burial will follow in Hawkins Cemetery on Lookout Mountain.

Family will receive friends Saturday 10 a.m.-noon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to New Salem Volunteer Fire Department, 12477 Highway 136, Rising Fawn, GA 30738.
