Betty Jean Morris

Betty Jean Morris died peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2020, in Chattanooga at the age of 83. She was the former Betty Jean Dobbins, daughter of the late Rosteen and Sam Dobbins. She was preceded in death by her husband, George (Jimmy) Morris.

Betty Jean was born in Higdon, Alabama, on December 17, 1936. She grew up on Sand Mountain, where she graduated from Pisgah High School. After marrying, she and Jimmy lived in Bryant and then moved to Carrollton, Georgia, to raise their family. After they retired, they came back to Sand Mountain to live on the mountain on the farm they loved. Betty Jean loved her family and took care of everyone. She loved beautiful flowers and roses were her favorite. She and Jimmy loved going to auctions and collecting antiques. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was “Mama B” to her grandchildren and cherished her time with each of them. There was no greater joy for her than to be able to take care of them. In fact, she wanted to be wherever her grandchildren were! She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Miley of Perry, Ga., Donna (Jim) Cunningham of Warner Robins, Ga., and Angela (David) Long of Atlanta; grandchildren, Coney Cunningham, Mary Glynn Miley, Cammie Cunningham and William Long; sister, Joan (Jim) Hixon; and brother, Sammy Dobbins. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, in the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Jim Hixon officiating.

Visitation will be from 10:30–11:30 a.m., interment following at Flat Rock Methodist Cemetery. The family would like to thank Hospice of Chattanooga and Manorhouse Assisted Living and Memory Care for their kind and loving care for both Betty Jean and Jimmy.

Arrangements by Moore Funeral Home, Trenton, Georgia.
